I’m 6’4″ and weigh 240 lbs. and have been looking for a large enough bodyboard for a variety of conditions, I tried some of the largest body boards but none worked well in the conditions I like: 3′ shoulders – 8′ walls. The boards I’ve used dragged in the shoulders and made it difficult to catch up to long sections. In large waves the boards without fins would drop down the face requiring me to dig an arm or hand in to elevate into fast sections.

This new board was just tested in both conditions and I couldn’t be happier. Hurricane Rosa pushed large waves into California much of the week and provided varying conditions in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties. The 3′-5′ shoulders in Santa Barbara were a blast with this board, caught all I tried for and made all sections. The 6′ – 8′ day in Ventura was the most fun I’ve had in the ocean in over 10 years because of this board. Non-stop lefts and rights with relatively steep drops that this board grabbed and held until the end of ride. I’ve owned a number of kneeboards over the decades, some twin fins, and I’d forgotten how beautifully they handle. In fact I look forward to trying to kneeboard on my ZEFR because it is a perfect combination of stiffness and rigidity though a little narrow for me.

I’d give it a higher rating but I’m not enthralled with the leash location. I’ve been riding waves since 1963, before leashes came around and pride myself on being able to hold on to boards in most conditions, most wave heights. I haven’t had to use an ankle leash since my last kneeboard 20 years ago and found this to be awkward: getting snagged on my fins, wrapping around my leg, etc at very inopportune moments (8′ closeouts after a beautiful 8′ tube ride). It may have been better to put the leash in the nose (?). In the future I will take the board plug provided and only use the leash on largest days…

I believe you’re right about it’s indestructible qualities, I don’t have to worry about delamination. It did get a few compression dings in Ventura but I’ll be interested to see how it holds up over time. Anyway, love the board look forward to using it again. Nice job!

Thanks MAVs, great detailed review! FYI you can move the leash plug to any location on the board, just drill a new hole and put in the plug. Don’t worry about plugging any holes because the board will never water-log.
